Claud Neiderheiser, 1929 – 2024

Services will be held Sunday, Aug. 25, at Salem United Methodist Church in Paton for Claud Neiderheiser, 95, of Fort Dodge, formerly of Paton.

The Rev Susan Rohden of Gowrie United Methodist Church of Gowrie, and the Rev Steve Daikerd of Salem United Methodist Church will offer words of comfort. Doyle Carlson will be soloist, accompanied by Danille Curtis. Honorary bearers will be Mackenzie Propst, Amber Schwarting, Gabrielle Schwarting and Victoria Schwarting.

Casket bearers will be Cody Propst, Benjamin Schwarting, Ian Schwarting, Patrick Kirk, Lynn Marshall and Dennis Smith. Interment will be a the Paton Township Cemetery with military honors by an Iowa Army National Guard honor guard.

Claud Robert Neiderheiser, the son of Francis and Erma Clingan Neiderheiser, was born on January 9, 1929, in Farnhamville, and departed this life August 21, 2024, at the Paula Baber Hospice House in Fort Dodge. He lived his life to the age of 95 years, 7 months, and 12 days.

Claud graduated from Paton High School in 1947. After graduation he worked for the railroad for two years and then at the local Clover Farm grocery store. He was drafted and served in the United States Army March 5, 1951- March 3, 1953, where he was stationed in Germany during the Korean Conflict. Following his honorable discharge from the service, he returned to Paton where he continued to work at the grocery store.

On September 6, 1958, Claud was united in marriage to Dorla Jean Shriver at the Salem United Methodist Church in Paton. To this union were born two daughters: Peggy Jo Propst (Robert Propst) of Ankeny, and Kari Lynn Schwarting (Dr. Steven Schwarting) of Osage.

Claud worked for 38 years at the grocery store. He then worked various jobs in the area, including Marshall Implement in Paton. Claud was well known for helping others and was willing to try to fix almost anything. Claud was a long-time member of the local fire department. He participated in the Lions Club and American Legion. 

Left to mourn his passing are his wife Dorla; daughters Peg Propst and Kari Schwarting with her husband Steve; grandchildren Mackenzie and Cody of Des Moines, Ben and his wife Chloe of Osage, Amber of Loveland, CO, Gabrielle of Cedar Falls, and Victoria and Ian of Ames; and great-grandsons Oliver and Leo of Osage.

 Those that preceded him in death were his parents and in-laws, Darrell and Jessie Shriver; a sister in infancy; brothers Ivan and Marvin; son-in law Bob; and grandson Daniel.
